ADL GLOBAL 100 anti-Semitism index

ב“ה

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was founded 1913 in Chicago by members of the B’nai B’rith lodge. Although objectives and structure are similar with free masons, B’nai B’rith does define itself as unassociated.

The building of the first lodge in Germany founded 1882 in Berlin was taken over 1938 by the Gestapo, the registered owner until the end of the war. In the building at the Kleist Strasse 10, where the B’nai B’rith met weekly, was the „Society of Russian Jews“. The task was to facilitate needy Russian immigrants to adopt into their new environment. Today it’s the address of an 4-star hotel. The second branch of B’nai B’rith is „Hillel“. Hillel takes care of Jews studying abroad worldwide and offers hostels.

ADL made it their business to act worldwide against antisemitism and to fight prejudice and discrimination. Top dictum is to maintain human rights and the protection of every single human. ADL realized, that without supporting recommendations, tensions will arise between ethnos. The program „A world of Difference“has been developed 1992 in the USA and 1993 in Vienna, where representatives of education, communities and media would co-operate.

Jointly with governments of many western countries, contracts of co-operation were concluded. A first approach in Austria was the education of executives, to build the basis for impartial activities.

Nonetheless ADL as a fighter against antisemitism has broad support, there were partly justified critics. The refusal to recognize the genocide of Armenians led 2007 to a crisis between ADL and American Jews. Finally, 2014 the incomprehensible decision was withdrawn by the ADL.

The critic regarding a planned ad space in the New Meadowlands Stadium in NYC was met with sharp refusal because of the connections of the Allianz concern with Nazis. Furthermore, ADL was blamed not just fighting antisemitism as such but to advocate Israel as a principle without filtering against every critic and to judge all critics as antisemitism.

An allegation which applies to every one very day, when being active one or other way advocating Israel.

The List of the ten most anti-Semitic organizations in the USA caused a lot of attention 2013 when the „Jewish Voice for a Just peace“ appeared. This organization, in Europe the JVJP, is characterized by using every opportunity to act against Israel, with petitions, pickets, poster actions, information stands and the invitation of partners with the same political attitude, to their anti-Israel events.

Since some years ADL is publishing a list of about 100 countries with an index of antisemitism in % of the population. The questions for the analysis are presented in the language of the country to avoid misunderstandings due to language problems.
